A Man’s Guide for Buying Lingerie as a Christmas Gift

Sexy lingerie makes a perfect Christmas gift for your other half. There are some fantastic sets and pieces out in the run-up to December 25th, which can often be boxed and gift-wrapped to take all the stress out of Christmas shopping this year.

If you’re reading this article, then you’ve already made the very wise decision to shop for lingerie for your girlfriend or wife online. Going underwear shopping on the high street can be quite offputting at this time of year, particularly if you’re feeling out of your depth. There are hoards of extra shoppers to watch you squirm with embarrassment in the ‘thongs’ section. Instead, you can take your time from the comfort of your own home, browsing through the gorgeous collection of Christmas underwear we have here at Sexy Xmas Lingerie .

So, here are a list of things you need to bear in mind when shopping for sexy Christmas lingerie this year:

1. As much as you might want your missus to dress up like a lapdancer, not all women will feel comfortable in such an outfit, so take some time to think about what kind of lingerie she would like to wear and not necessarily what you would like to see her in. It is a gift for her after all, but hopefully your ideas will be able to meet in the middle.

2. Make sure you know her clothes and bra size. It’s so upsetting to receive beautiful lingerie in the wrong size. If you get a size too small, she’ll feel fat. If you get a size too big, she’ll think that you think she’s fat.
If you’re not 100% sure of her size, then it’s time to get creative. You can try and ask her if you feel comfortable doing so, but if not then you’ll need to wait until she’s in the shower or out of the house and then have a quick look through her wardrobe and knicker draw. Pay particular attention to the size of her bras, but also try and work out what size knickers and/or nightie she wears.

3. Look at her normal every day clothes. If she’s a lady that likes to show a bit of cleavage, then it should be fairly safe to go with plungy bras. If you’ve never seen her wear a thong, then that might be because she doesn’t feel comfortable wearing one. Read this guide for a full discussion on Thongs or French Knickers .

4. All women look fantastic in stockings and suspenders, but some don’t know how to wear them. If you dream of seeing the lady of your life in this sexy ensemble, then browse the Suspenders page and then print off our guide on How to attach stockings and suspenders .

5. Think carefully about the colour of sexy lingerie that you’re going to get for your missus. Not all ladies like to wear glitzy red bras and panties, whilst others shy away from pastel colours that really don’t suit them. Look at what colour clothing and underwear she normally wears to give you an idea of what she thinks suits her. If in doubt, go with a sexy black number.

Hopefully these pointers will give you a better idea of how to purchase sexy lingerie for your wife or girlfriend, but if you’re still feeling a bit panicked about it all, you can’t go far wrong with a sexy but simple kimono, such as the two featured below.

How to measure your bra size correctly

Recent research suggests that 80% have never had their bra size measured correctly and are in fact wearing the wrong size for their bust.

In order to calculate your bra size, you’ll need a soft measuring tape – not a metal one!

You need to take 2 measurements to calculate your bra size. These are the bra back size and the bra cup size.

1. To measure your bra back size, take your tape measure and place it underneath your bust and measure right around the back to your ribcage. Make sure that the tape measure is not too loose, but not so tight that you’re unable to breathe. It should feel comfortable yet secure and tape should be straight across your back. Take the measurement in inches and then add +5 to it. For instance if you measured yourself as 29″, then you’ll be a 34″ bra size. If once you’ve added the 5, you end up with an odd number, then you’re usually better off rounding up and going for the larger bra size. So if you’re a 35″ after adding 5, you may find that a 36″ bra will fit you more comfortably than a 34″.

2. Measure from your back around to the fullest part of your breasts, which is normally over the nipples. Again, ensure that the measuring tape is not too loose, nor too tight and is straight and even across your back.
With this measurement, you need to compare it to the calculated (after adding the 5) measurement of your bra back size. The difference between the two numbers if your cup size.

Less than 1 inch – AA Cup
1 Inch – A Cup
2 Inches – B Cup
3 Inches – C Cup
4 Inches – D Cup
5 Inches – DD Cup
6 Inches – E Cup
7 Inches – F Cup

Thongs or French Knickers

Do you find it hard to decide whether to buy thongs or french knickers? Here are some pros and cons of both to help you make your mind up!

1. Thongs don’t leave a visible panty line underneath tight fitting trousers, skirts or dresses, whereas french knickers can tend to scrunch up and leave a line.

2. French knickers are flattering on any body shape, whereas thongs tend to suit a slimmer female.

3. Some ladies find thongs to be a little uncomfortable, although many women find that much like flip flops, the more they wear them, the more they get used to them! Other ladies think that thongs are much more comfortable than french knickers as there is less material to chafe against your legs.

4. Gross as this is, if you perspire heavily in hot weather, then french knickers will contain more of your perspiration and stop you ending up with hideously embarrassing dark patches!

5. French knickers are less likely to ride up above the top of your trousers.

6. Thongs look better with stockings and suspenders than french knickers.

7. Thongs tend to be cheaper than french knickers – less material and all that!

8.. Some men prefer the visible treat they get from a lady wearing a thong, whilst others prefer to leave something to the imagination by looking at a girl in french knickers. It depends on the guy!

How to attach stockings and suspenders

The combination of stockings and a suspender belt is a look that is guaranteed to get most hearts racing, but many women are put off wearing them because they’re scared of not knowing how to attach them to each other.

So we’re here to give you a step-by-step guide in how to achieve this sexy look:

1. You can try and attach them before putting the ensemble on, but we find it much easier to start by putting on the stockings and pulling them up until the tops reach the middle to the top of your thigh.

2. Next, put on your suspender belt. You’ll notice that most suspender belts come with a bra-type clasp. Fix this in place and let the 4 straps hang down.

3. Position this 4 straps so that 2 of them are hanging down the front of your legs and 2 of them down the back.

4. Adjust the straps, as you would bra straps, so that they’re the length that you want them to be.

5. Now, comes the hard part. Most suspender belts use an attachment which involves a small piece of rubber which is contained inside a bottlenecked shape wire loop. If they’re attached together when you purchase them, pry the rubber out of the wire loop with your thumb and forefinger.

6. Carefully place the wire loop behind the stocking, next to your skin and the rubber over the top of the stocking. Then force the rubber and the piece of stocking back into the fattest bit of the wire loop and secure them by pushing up until you reach the thinnest part of the wire loop. Adjust the strap again, as you would a bra, if you need it to be tighter or looser.

7. Repeat processes 5 and 6 with all the other straps. To make sure that the straps are attached evenly, try doing this in front of a full-length mirror!

8. You’ll often find that in lingerie adverts, knickers are worn beneath the suspender belts so that more detail on the belt can be displayed. However, in ‘real life’ many girls opt to wear a thong or french knickers over the top of the suspender belt. This allows easy removal for visiting the bathroom and sex!
